American Sniper Analysis Rough Draft

When previews came out for American sniper there was not one person that I know that didn’t want o see the movie. It was advertised everywhere. Billboards, TV, and lots of social media sites. When this movie came out people flocked to the movie theaters to see this movie.

This movie is based around his first kills.

I feel this movie had a bigger target audience then most movies. This movie is rated R so it audience was for anyone older than 17. Young people can relate to it because maybe they have been in some type of force or maybe they are starting their life and know what its life to struggle and start a family and become a husband. Older people can also relate to this movie because maybe they have to go in to some force and now they retired. They know what’s its like to not see your family and see things in war that no one should ever have to see. Even if you haven’t gone to war people can still relate to this movie because it’s about a family man. Maybe they know someone that has went to war or they are simply thankful for the men and women that go and fight every day. This movie is so strong and powerful that anyone can relate to it in some way and that’s why the target audience is so big.

There are many Culture belief values and attitude bedded in this film.

If looking at the movie and the actual real story that this movie was base off you could find more myths but if you are looking at just the movie it is hard to find myths because od what its based off.  Although it is based on a true story doesn’t mean everything in the movie is true. A myth that someone could point out is just the life of Chris Kyle and his wife as a whole. For the most part there life seems perfect. Chris Kyle is the perfect man. He is an example of a women man. He is strong attractive and hard working man that supports his family. They fall in love at a bar and ten soon get married and have kids. He goes to war to protect and care for his family. Most men and women will do this.
This film promotes both positive values and negative values. It shows the life of a navy seal and lots of the ups of his life and man of the downs. Positive values are when he finds the girl of his dreams and get married and has kid. These are all positive things that happens in people life. Using the positive experiences makes this film likable.
The American sniper delivers a sense of vivid tribute to its real life subject. Things like this happen every day.
As you can see this movie was very powerful and an inspiration to many.  It would be hard for someone to say that they genuinely didn’t like the movie because it is based on a true story and almost anyone can relate to it in some way.

  1. I think that you can come up with a catchier introduction because you have a great movie to work with. I like how you mention the different way people can relate to the movie. It is also inspiring for those who watch the movie and realize that their everyday struggles aren't struggles at all when compare to something the people in this movie are going through. You can ruin the ending kind of my saying how his death is ironic and goes against the norm. Instead of the movie ending with a happy ending like they usually do this one leaves the audience in awe at the end of the movie. You can also talk about looking up to and appreciating the military men and women is a huge part of American Pop culture. There are video games, books and movies about how military people are considered the true heroes without the crazy super powers like Superman etc. I like the ideas you have and I know you expand on them much more and more into depth. You have a good start.

  2. I would suggest trying to get deeper into the myths this movie presents. For example, why could he be considered the perfect man? Why do you think he’s living the perfect life? Could this be considered living the ‘American Dream’? Is this something everyone wants? Also think about what the message is with this movie. Is this a pro-military movie or does his struggles with PTSD suggest otherwise? Is this movie pro-American and what does that mean exactly? I think a lot can be said about this movie and it’s a great example of many common views and myths of the culture we live in. Take advantage of the many aspects involved.

  3. First of all I love the movie choice. This is a great movie. You are right, many people could not wait for this movie to come out includding me. I feel you a right as to how people can relate to this movie with all the different ways. I also think that this kind of movie does make it hard to piont out myths because its not like its trying to give a message its just telling a true story. But yes you could go into what makes him a perfect man. And I think you should just go more indeepth in the positive and negative values.

  4. try starting with a quote from the movie, or an interesting antidote. as for the movie it shows the value we place on "defending our land" yet we do it in other peoples lands not our own. the gun ho attitude that it implies is one of a war mongering society, the U.S. has had a war every decade that we have been a country, that makes at least 24 wars in 240 years. although we did not call them all wars they were conducted as such under the articles of war.
